MLB Baseball Betting: Rangers Win Right to Negotiate with Yu Darvish

by Joe Rodriguez
The Texas Rangers won the negotiating rights to Japanese pitching sensation Yu Darvish on Monday after bidding a record $51.7 million.
The Rangers now have 30 days to negotiate a contract with the 25-year-old from the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, who is widely considered one of the best pitchers not in the majors.
The bid surpasses the $51.1 million that the Boston Red Sox paid for the negotiating rights for Japanese star Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006.
The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs were all believed to be in the bidding for Darvish.
Darvish was sensational in Japan last season, posting a 1.44 ERA and 276 strikeouts over 232 innings. If he heads to the majors, he'll leave Japan with a career mark of 93-38 and a 1.99 ERA.
